Dear UCLA Extension Students,
As you probably know, California Proposition 16, the proposed legislative constitutional amendment that would allow diversity as a factor in public employment, education, and contracting decisions, has been defeated.
The Chancellor’s message, from earlier this week about the loss, states “as disheartening as this defeat is to many, we remain determined to do all we can within the confines of the law to bring together people from a diverse array of backgrounds to learn, live and work at our institution.” Read the Chancellor’s full message here.
The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee at UCLA Extension wants to reiterate our commitment to champion the growth in diversity of our students, instructors, and staff at UCLA Extension.
As a key next step, we are developing the building blocks of a strategic action plan for advancing access, equity, diversity, and inclusion both within and beyond our organization.
The full EDI Committee consisting of students, instructors, and staff will meet to begin the work for these important initiatives on November 12, 2020.
