UCLA Extension Names Patricia Galea Executive Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing

Continuing education division focuses on new initiatives and growth.

LOS ANGELES, CA – (December 10, 2020) – Patricia Galea joins the leadership team at UCLA Extension as the Executive Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing. She leads the communications and marketing initiatives for the division across programs in the arts, business, management and legal programs, education, engineering and digital technology, humanities and sciences, international programs, and corporate education, as well as collaboration with UCLA departments. Her appointment began on November 16th. 

“Patricia joins UCLA Extension at an important moment as we adapt to the COVID-19 crisis and look at re-imagining continuing higher education,” said Eric A. Bullard, Dean, Continuing Education & UCLA Extension. “Her breadth of experience in strategy, communications, and integrated marketing give the division a gifted leader to guide our growth and outreach.” 

Galea oversees a diverse team across paid, earned and owned media, data science and analytics, creative, brand, content/web. Her team handles marketing and communications for a  portfolio of 100+ professional certificates, over 5000 courses, and various industry conferences. UCLA Extension enrolls over 40,000 students per year.

“For over 20 years, I have focused on driving growth by focusing on the intersection of digital media, brand, content, technology, and data,” Galea said. “This is my passion and I look forward to using my expertise to advance the initiatives underway and highlighting UCLA Extension’s unique story, students, programs.” 

Galea’s affiliation with UCLA Extension began seventeen years ago when she developed and launched the digital advertising curriculum. She has been an instructor and advisory board member in the program.  Additionally, she mentors MBA students in the Easton Technology Management at UCLA Anderson School of Management. 

Most recently, Galea was SVP, Performance Marketing, IPG Mediabrands, (Universal McCann, Reprise, Initiative) where she led digital advertising strategy for the firms’ top clients: Sony Pictures Entertainment, Amazon, Nintendo and others. She has also served in executive roles at Edelman, and The Walt Disney Company where she launched iconic Disney properties onto social and emerging digital platforms. She began her career at Accenture and spent her early years thereafter at LA and SF agencies including AGENCY.COM, RPA and Team One (Saatchi & Saatchi).

Galea is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.
